SKT works much faster and safer thanks to Vinçotte Digi-Tags

At SKT, a specialist in industrial refrigeration and freezer systems, safety has been at the center of attention for many years.

To optimize their site operations and make the management of lifting and hoisting equipment more efficient, the company chose to implement Vinçotte's Digi-Tags in late 2023. We spoke with Siska D'Hulster, their prevention advisor, who has been in service for 25 years, about how this digital solution has thoroughly improved their way of working.

From colored ribbons to digital QR tags

Until recently, SKT worked with colored ribbons for the equipment on their construction yards as a visual indication of inspection dates. These were renewed every three months at each inspection for each piece of lifting and hoisting equipment. “If the customer's safety coordinator asked for inspection data, we often had to call and search. Now that's a thing of the past. One scan of the QR code and all the information is immediately available,” says Siska.

Digi-Tags allows customers to compile their own custom reports (MYOR Make Your Own Report) for all material going to a job site. This not only saves time for the internal teams, but also provides transparency towards customers. In addition, the safety coordinator now automatically receives the latest inspection report with each new inspection - a considerable added value for cooperation.

Digi-Tags Features

  • Always up-to-date inspection results available from multiple concessions
  • Dynamic dashboard with visualization for easy follow-up of all equipment
  • Efficient and clear follow-up of all tasks for all employees.

A tough start, but strong support

The move to Digi-Tags was not without its challenges. “The biggest hurdle was transferring data from the old to the new system,” it sounds. “But thanks to Vinçotte's support, everything went smoothly in the end. Especially the support of the Vinçotte Digi-Tags experts, who know the system inside out, was a great help.”

SKT employees are getting to know the system step by step. “It is an extensive platform with many possibilities, and we are still discovering new features. But the user-friendliness and guidance make it manageable.

Weekly use and expansion to other materials

Digi-Tags is now a regular part of the operation at SKT. “The safety coordinators regularly request reports, so we use the system on a weekly basis,” she says. And that use is expanding. In addition to lifting and hoisting equipment inspected by Vinçotte, equipment maintained by the client (such as ladders, oxygen cylinders, gas detectors and ammonia flexiles) can now also be digitally monitored with Digi-Tags QR codes and a separate Client Assets dashboard. Soon the fixed machines in the machinery park are also scheduled to be tagged, so that all documentation: conformity certificates, manuals.... are all conveniently retrievable.

Positive impact on security culture

The benefits of Digi-Tags extend beyond administrative efficiency. “We are convinced that this system is a big step forward for our security culture. Everything is clearer, more traceable and available faster. As a result, we can not only work more efficiently, but above all more safely on our construction sites.
