The construction industry is facing a significant regulatory shift as the updated Construction Products Regulation (CPR) moves environmental sustainability from a voluntary initiative to a legal necessity.
Following its adoption in 2024, the revised CPR integrates the goals of the European Green Deal directly into the manufacturing process. The traditional Declaration of Performance (DoP) is evolving into a more comprehensive Declaration of Performance and Conformity (DoPC), requiring manufacturers to provide transparent, life-cycle-based data on their products' environmental footprints.
To meet these rigorous new standards, a phased implementation timeline has been established, beginning with mandatory Global Warming Potential (GWP) reporting in 2026, followed by broader environmental indicators through 2032.
This transition is supported by the introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP), a mandatory digital tool designed to store essential data regarding material composition and safety. As the industry prepares for these changes, Kiwa and Vinçotte are in the final stages of becoming Notified Bodies to provide the essential third-party verification required under the new System 3+ assessment framework.
