28 April: World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Health and safety standards are an almost invisible yet fundamental pillar of our society.

Health and safety standards are an almost invisible yet fundamental pillar of our society. Without these standards, could we be confident that we’ll return home safely from work, that we can cross a new bridge without worry, or that we can enjoy our evening meal without a second thought?

Our colleague Ellen De Geest, a true Vinçotter who now applies her expertise as Global Head of Health & Safety at our parent organisation Kiwa, puts it aptly:
Safety is like a silent hero: it is so much a part of our daily lives that we simply expect everything to be safe.

On Tuesday 28 April, the International Labour Organization is organising the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026. This day puts safety firmly in the spotlight. This year’s theme, ‘Let’s ensure a healthy psychosocial working environment’, focuses on the health and well-being of workers and on how daily working conditions are developed, managed and organised. A core value of how we at Vinçotte look to the future.

In an interview on the Kiwa website, Ellen explains how safety at Vinçotte – A Kiwa Company and all other Kiwa companies has a dual focus: ‘Promoting safety within our own organisation is closely linked to our efforts to promote safety in organisations and communities worldwide.

From the services our Vinçotte inspectors provide every day to help keep the world safe to the ‘15-Minute Challenge’ that has strengthened psychosocial well-being within our own teams, you can read more about it in the interview.
